Remodeling Leisure

The PHX leisure house is still going, but its no longer operated by Remodeling Leisure ( RL). We are pivoting and refocusing. My daughter recently started nursing assistant school, and was inspired by the laminated reference sheets I got for her. One is on physiology, ones on medications, and one is on medical terms. It reminds me of the multiplication table in the back of composition notebooks.

The story behind these Laminated guides are…. follow my logic here:
The rate of military veteran suicide is high and sad.
The Veterans Administration employs lots of professionals to help veterans recover from PTSD.
They use the best evidence based recovery programs and theories. They have expansive Recreation Therapy offerings.
PTSD is caused by not having the coping skills to deal with a stressful experience.
Strengthening/developing/identifying healthy & effective coping skills is an integral part of PTSD treatment.
Active duty Personnel have access to mental health professionals, the Moral Walfare and Recreation (MWR) department BUT NOT RECREATION THERAPISTS???!!! Why is there not a Recreation Therapy military job ( AFSC, MOS, NEC, etc)???!!!!

Lets make/sell these laminated field guides to help prevent against PTSD, and eventually, one day, an active duty military job as a recreation therapist. They can bridge MWR to Mental Health without risk of necessitating diagnosis or medication on the members file. Many active duty don’t seek mental health treatment because of the risk of disqualification. Lets give people cope ahead skills so they are less likely to develop PTSD! Remodeling Leisure has been a slow start, but perhaps things will pick up now !
